big l - all black

negative as all hell. have to bracket it in "this is a cartoon" quotations for me to feel ok about certain lines. down there with the lyrical nihilism of schooly d 'i wanna get dusted' or pretty much anything by mobb deep, but this guy was one of the best in terms of mc skills, and the backing track on this is incredible. candidate for top ten of all time freestyle. if you had to battle big l lyrically, you would pee your pants.

well put. this album is a weird reminder of how much darker rap was in the early nineties. i mean, not that it's cleaned up its act or anything, but the tone of stuff like this (or even something as above-the-radar as biggie's ready to die) is fucked up in a way that's harder to set aside.

great stuff though, with reservations.

Good thing I grew up listening to baby killing, mother-raping Glenn Danzig or I would have ended up warped...
