Fall + Mixtape #2

The Fall Live At the Knitting Factory, NYC, 2006:
(i decided just to include this story from t.c. into the main text from the comments section -j):
last summer my brother got married in maryland on a saturday. the fall were playing the very knitting factory gig justin posted on thursday. i was unable to get tickets. it was one of only two east coast gigs. the next one was on friday in brooklyn. the next gig after that was a 30th anniversary gig in manchester. also this was only there third gig with the new lineup as mark fired the whole band except his fetching 24 year old wife, and promoted the opening act into the (real new) fall. i couldn't miss this gig i had to go. so i went to nyc over my family's protests leaving promises that i would return after the show to leave for maryland on friday at 10:30 am. it was pouring rain out i went to my friend jackie gendels opening i was a drowned rat. i left and went to the knitting factory at 9 pm. the fall were set to play at midnight. i tried to convince the door to sell me a ticket. he said that the show is sold out, has been sold out and that i have absolutely no way of acquiring a ticket. i didnt give up. i stood outside with all the teenaged smokers by the door who were at the early all ages bouncing souls concert. i got lots of weird looks i had nothing to do. it was pouring rain. i stood and waited. there was a 11pm bus i could take back home. but then i would be on the bus going back to philly while the fall were playing. it was too depressing. i pressed on. i waited and around 10:30pm i notice a black town car pull up i had a hunch. i moved closer to the car out came elenor smith and three other dudes who i took to be the new members of the fall. she started walking around the corner so i went up to and said i really wanted to go to the show and did she have an extra ticket i could purchase. she looked at me smiled and said. "what's your name?" i said "anthony" she said, "anthony, i'll put you on the guest list."
and then she kept on and went to get a six pack which i finished before the show. when i went in i was not only fucked up but super siked. i went to the ticket window. the chick asked for my ticket i said that i was on the guest list she said the opening band had already played. i said "no, i'm on the fall's list" she thought i was crazy asked my name i told her . she took a long time to look up and then said who put you on the list. with that i said elenor and the ticket lady begrudgingly stamped my hand and i wnet in. the show was insane i was up at the front pounding my fist on the stage. mark toyed with an aggressive queer at onepoint. another point became entangled in microphone wires. lots of turning off peoples amps mid song. great. sorry this is so long, i'll wwrap up now. anyhow not only did i get in for free via mark's hot wife, i managed to snag the setlist, hang out afterwards with other crazy fall fans and the band afterward (but not mark he would nt leave the dressing room) but i also caught a 5:15am train back to philly. slept in the car to maryland. and made wedding rehearsel at 2pm.

the nice thing about these mixes is that i totally haven't been seeking out, like, obscure early pop-punk/post-punk... but i like that shit a lot... so i get to play catch up a bit with these...

the dr. john track is surprisingly good. as is the durutti column song. i have a record of theirs that i think is sorta bland, so it was a pleasant surprise...

long blondes have that sound, but are current. i'd like to see them live. hubble bubble, by the way, has plastic bertrand on vocals. that whole dr. john album is great. all voodoo lyrics the whole way.
