I came across this clip searching for The Falcons/Wilson Pickett. This stripped down father and son version is pretty amazing.

so... if this works ok, the trick (apparently?) is to dump the tracks into i-tunes and then list the mix by album. supposedly they'll play chronologically that way.

making the tracks flow in a specific order is 75% of the fun with these, so please let me know if you're having trouble playing this properly...

i've known about a couple of archive sites like project gutenberg that put up books by authors whose copyrights are long expired like old translations of marx, nietzsche and the bible, but this is the first ive seen of this kind of thing in blog form with full isssues of time and the economist thrown in with old out of print novels:

http://elgringocolombiano.blogspot.com/2007/04/book-filesharing-sites.html

i like the idea. imagine being able to download a copy of the lost charles willeford novel where he makes hoke mosely as loathesome a being as he can after he was sick of writing novels about him.

Selling the Surly

Hey guys and gals.
In addition to a baked goods and drawing goods sale, I'm selling my bike. Partially because I don't ride it, partially because I have limited space, partially because I need the cash to help me move.... in 1 week!

Philly, NY or wherever it's worth it for someone you may know who loves the fixed-gear messenger style.
Here are the stats: I'm selling my Surly Steamroller. No not a vacuum, an awesome bike! It's a fixed-gear, flip-flop hub, front and back breaks- bad-ass, street cred worthy bike. The tires are 27" in diameter. The frame is best for an averaged sized person (from 5'4" to 5'9"). One tire is a bit worn, otherwise read to go. I'm asking $320. Plus I'm throwing in a free helmet.

Sometimes it's nice to rewind when you missed something. Pre-election, this is Billionaire stepford-wife Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild, a Hillary Clinton fundraiser who endorsed McCain when Obama won the primary. Here she tried unconvincingly to parrot some ideological brain-shit involving feeling able to take a stand against 'elitism' from her own position and geting taken to task for it on cnn.

INDEPENDENT LENS | The Cool School | PBS

cant wait to see this!
Today, Friday, Nov 14 7:00p
at International House, Philadelphia, PA
Price: $5.00 - $7.00
The Cool School: Story of the Ferus Art Gallery - An object lesson in how to build an art scene from scratch and what to avoid in the process, the film focuses on the seminal Ferus Gallery, which groomed the LA art scene from a loose band of idealistic beatniks into a coterie of competitive, often brilliant artists, including Ed Ruscha, Craig Kauffman, Wallace Berman, Ed Moses and Robert Irwin. The Ferus also served as launching point for New York imports, Andy Warhol (hosting his first Soup Can show), Jasper Johns and Roy Lichtenstein as well as the first Marcel Duchamp retrospective and Pop Art show. What was lost and gained is tied up in a complex web of egos, passions, money and art. This is how LA came of age. The Way We Do Art Now and Other Sacred Tales - The Way We Do Art Now and Other Sacred Tales is a series of parables concerning modes of representation, language and cognition. Often conveyed through conscious misinformation, Baldessari's witty puns and jokes play off the relation of word, image and meaning; the intersection of what is heard or written, what is seen, and what is understood.

self-promotion

so, my friend mike just put up a review i wrote of harmony korine's mister lonely a few months back, so i thought i'd pass it along:

http://esotikafilm.com/

if you look at the top left, the link to my piece should be there.

oh, and take a few minutes to click around there in general. mike has probably the most idiosyncratic taste in film of anyone i know. he's particularly fired up about this certain breed of arthouse erotica from the 70's (jess franco, jean rollin, shuji terayama, etc.). and he's probably more interested in radical sexual politics and the like than simply seeing some lady that looks like sophia loren get molested by a werewolf (or whatever). actually, he's gay, so he's probably not leering at the girls much anyway.

if you spend enough time on there, you'll undoubtedly find the occasional not-safe-for-work screencap. but not in my piece!

Groover's Paradise tomorrow!

Hey folks, thought I'd post this up for the Philly willows. Many connections, got my handle from a Ted masterpiece and my party rules from Will, who cruises here.

Aloha Friends!

Apologies if this is a repeat from any of your social networking hangs.

We're gettin' the band back together, er...I'm reviving my DJ career!

Please join me for the maiden voyage of my new venture, GROOVER'S PARADISE. It'll likely happen once a season, just like the old Meltdown Committee of days past. Folks who enjoyed those sessions will find a lot of pleasure in the Paradise. I'll have a buddy with me each time around and we'll be jamming the very best in illegal vibrationz, quittin' timey, critter & outlaw, beach weirdo, boot cuts and sneaky jams. Scratching your head? The answers can be found this Wednesday! Also a full moon, the Snow Moon or the Beaver Moon, depending on your system of beliefs. All full moons are Fool Moons in Groover's Paradise, so drink up and goof!

This sesh's buddy is DJ Pictures of Smoke, artist Jamie Dillon. He's bringing the gospel

Please spread the word amongst your people!

Performance: Mini Comic Pile Up
Whenever Wednesday, November 12 @ 7pm
FREE to members & Penn Cardholders, $5 general admission

For this event, Philadelphia artist Paul Swenbeck has gathered some of the brightest stars in underground comics to debut new minicomics—and to perform. Like Robert Crumb, these artists have a deep interest in music that ties to their visual art practice. The performance line up for the evening includes:
Clint Takeda, performing with a psychedelic guitar noise assault. Takeda is most famously known as the bass player for Bardo Pond, the local/world-wide stars of the drone/psych music circuit.

Art Jokes from local artist and DJ Andrew Jeffrey Wright. AJW is internationally known as the smiling ambassador from Philly's own Space 1026. His silkscreen and installation work as well as hilarious zines and collaborations have been exhibited internationally.

American Sneakers a folksy duo consisting of Steven Ward James and Jayson Scott Musson. Musson is also known as the lyrically acclaimed rap star Pack of Rats from Plastic Little.

The headliner is comic artist CF performing as Kites. Kites promises to deliver an insane noise conflagration. CF is a founding member of the Fort Thunder art collective in Providence RI. Picturebox publishes his latest work, Powr Mastrs.

These artists will also be premiering new mini comics made especially for this event. To round things off, this event will feature a huge merchandise area loaded with new comics for purchase by fantastic artists like Issac Lin, Thom Lessner and Scott Cassidy.

Miss Pussycat opening tonight at Live With Animals gallery

The Center of the Earth is an exhibit of over one hundred of Panacea Theriac's puppets from live shows and movies, and also some nature paintings. They represent a complicated parallel universe that is governed by large mysterious entities living in the center of the earth who boss everyone around. From the mean witch Christy Corn Pop, Dusty and Treasure, to Captain Dream Weaver and the Happy Tree! These are not works of art, they are busy portholes.

The exhibition will include a live puppet show "The Mystery at Squirrel Ranch" on the opening night and the films Trixie and the Treetrunks, North Pole Nutrias, and Electric Swamp will be shown throughout the month.

Panacea Theriac is also known as Miss Pussycat of Quintron and Miss Pussycat, a musical experience. She does puppet shows in rock clubs all over the world and lives at the Spellcaster Lodge in New Orleans , LA .
